A handful of countries allow foreign singers to enter their own ‘Search for a Song’ competition, as long as the composer is a resident national, so Justin travels around Europe looking for composers to help him. Running alongside this story is a portrait of Europe through Eurovision eyes and a history of the competition itself, as Justin meets past UK winners and less successful entrants, along with past winners from other European countries.

(London – May 2010) – Tiger Aspect Productions today announces that Patrick Spence, the former Head of Drama, BBC Northern Ireland, will be joining forces with the Indie in an exclusive deal producing drama for the UK and International Markets. Patrick will start up his own label within the organisation, fully supported by the production and business expertise of both Tiger and Endemol. This heavyweight signing will allow the exploration and development of a wide range of projects from the specialist to the mainstream and further build on Tiger Aspect’s reputation as a leading international producer of top quality drama. The venture, as yet unnamed, will be based in Tiger’s Soho Square offices, and will open its doors in mid July.

Patrick had worked at BBC Northern Ireland since 2004 and also in house in London for several years during the 1990’s. His commissions from independents included Peter Bowker’s ‘Occupation’ (Winner Prix Europa and Broadcast Press Guild Award, Nominated RTS, Broadcast and the upcoming Bafta and Banff Awards), Rick Cottan’s ‘Hancock and Joan’ (nominated Best Single, Bafta and Broadcast Awards), Heidi Thomas’ hugely successful Boxing Day film for BBC1 ‘Ballet Shoes’ and the Bafta nominated relaunch of ‘Murphy’s Law’, on which Patrick worked with Tiger for the first time. He personally executive produced Guy Hibbert’s ‘Five Minutes of Heaven’ (Winner Best Director and Screenplay at Sundance Film Festival, and Best Single at the RTS and Irish Film Awards, Special Commendation Prix Europa, Nominated Best Single Film at Broadcast, Broadcast Press Guild and the upcoming Bafta and Banff Awards), David Nichols ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ (Nominated RTS and Bafta Awards) and Tony Saint’s recent film about the MP’s scandal ‘On Expenses’, as well as various runs of the BBC’s high profile crime series ‘Waking the Dead’, ‘Messiah’ and ‘Silent Witness’, all in house productions. In his time at the BBC, he sat on the Drama Editorial Board, the Pan UK Drama Board, the Independent Commissioning Board; and the Senior Management Board, BBC NI. In his tenure during the 1990’s as Head of Development, Drama Series, he commissioned Barbara Machin’s ‘Waking the Dead’ and, alongside Mal Young, co-commissioned both ‘Holby City’ and ‘Doctors’. Previous credits also include Matthew Hall’s Bafta nominated series ‘WIng and a Prayer’, which he commissioned whilst at Thames. He started in the industry in 1994 as a script editor on Jimmy McGovern’s ‘Cracker’.

Tiger drama hits include ‘Murphy’s Law’ (BBC1), ‘Robin Hood’ (BBC1), ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’ (ITV2) Abi Morgan’s BAFTA award-winning ‘White Girl’ (BBC2) and Guy Hibbert’s recent and critically acclaimed ‘Blood and Oil’ (BBC2). Forthcoming output includes Abi Morgan’s ‘Royal Wedding’ (BBC2) and Simon Donald’s ‘The Deep’ (BBC1), a five part thriller starring Minnie Driver and James Nesbitt.

Tiger Aspect’s Head of Drama, Greg Brenman said “I greatly enjoyed working with Patrick when he was at the BBC and am delighted that this relationship will now be permanent. Patrick has shown time and again that he is a great champion and producer of talent.”

Patrick said of the new venture: “This is the perfect marriage for me. I am very much responsible for my own destiny, but at the same time I am partnered with a team who means business. I feel very lucky indeed to have found a home here.’

(London – May 2010) – Tiger Aspect’s Factual Department has been commissioned by Channel 4’s Head of Daytime, Helen Warner to produce 15 x 30 minute episodes of hit format Cook Yourself Thin. The series is being sponsored by alli and will be executive produced by Jo McGrath, Tiger Aspect’s Head of Factual and Features in a deal brokered by Claire Heys, Director of Commercial Partnerships at Tiger, and Tony Moulsdale, Head of Programming at MediaCom.

Presented by food writer, stylist and TV presenter, Gizzi Erskine, Cook Yourself Thin is about how small lifestyle changes can lead to big results. The anti-dieting show will demonstrate how to develop a positive relationship with food through cooking as well as eating. The series taps into the ‘foodie’ spirit whilst simultaneously promoting responsible weight loss showing how to still indulge and shift the bulge.

Cook Yourself Thin is about keeping things simple, recognising that losing weight isn’t that easy and showing how making small tweaks to cooking methods and favourite meals and treats can deliver delicious, healthier options. It is definitely not about drastic diets, faddy foods or quick fix plans.

Each story will follow someone who is keen to shift the pounds but hasn’t learned the best way to do this. Gizzi will demonstrate how to cut back on the fat without scrimping on the flavour as she produces a range of low fat and low calorie versions of favourite dishes. She’ll demonstrate a selection of fat reducing facts and offer insider tips about how to incorporate more exercise into daily life.

The original series of Cook Yourself Thin proved a hit with viewers and the accompanying books became best sellers. The online content was hugely successful and the Channel 4 Food site was one of the most frequently visited.

Helen Warner, Channel 4’s Head of Daytime, said: “It’s great to have Cook Yourself Thin back on Channel 4. It’s a terrific format and Gizzi Erskine is a very exciting and talented presenter.”

Jo McGrath added, “Cook Yourself thin is a positive, pain free, delicious approach to weight loss and I’m delighted to be working with Gizzi again on this brand new format for daytime.”

Speaking on behalf of alli, Ruth Irving said “It is no secret that losing weight is hard and that we all need practical advice to help us make better choices everyday, which is why we are delighted to be sponsoring Cook Yourself Thin.”

Dragons’ Den star Theo Paphitis presents a new three-part series that follows the fortunes of nine brave and bold British companies trying to expand in three of the world’s most dynamic emerging markets. Vietnam, India, and Brazil. While Britain is still stuck in the recession, these economies are expanding. There couldn’t be a better time than now for British businesses to seize the opportunities offered by some of the world’s fastest-growing – but risky – markets.

In this series Dragons’ Den star, businessman Theo Paphitis follows the fortunes of nine very different British companies in three very different countries. It’s not a game. These are real companies, doing real business, with real money – and real reputations – at stake. They each have around a week in their chosen market to see if their business plans stack up. A week to research that market, meet the key contacts and – most vitally of all – decide if their business is going to work there or not. They’ve all done their homework back in Britain. But now the theory has to take back seat to the reality. Doing business in another culture – as our companies find out – isn’t easy. There are all kinds of pitfalls ahead. Cultural differences, red tape, import duties, ingrained consumer habits, and a different way of doing business.

Theo follows our companies at every stage. He’s there to offer them the benefit of his own extensive experience of doing business abroad, and he’s also there to ask the difficult questions that they may not want to ask themselves. Will his own conclusions about the viability of these businesses match those of the companies themselves?

Ross Kemp: Battle for the Amazon is a two part documentary looking into the socio-economic and environmental pressures facing the Amazon regions of Brazil, Ecuador and Peru, exploring the legacy of devastation created by a burgeoning global desire for energy, food and mineral resources.

Part 1 investigates how oil companies are affecting large tracts of the Amazon in a desire to satisfy the planets energy needs and how the turf wars that arise over cattle ranching and soy plantations have escalated.

Part 2 investigates how the global demand for cocaine is leading to further deforestation and how the rise in the price of gold has meant that people are tearing up the rainforest as they seek to earn a living.

Joanna Lumley is on the trip of a lifetime; exploring the longest river in the world, the River Nile, from sea to source.

Travelling upstream, in the direction of the earliest explorers she journeys along Africa’s ‘life line’, visiting the people who live and work along this famous river today. Travelling through 5 different countries, she crosses some of the most inhospitable landscapes on earth; from deserts where ancient civilizations once ruled to jungles where Victorian explorers underwent unspeakable suffering.

Joanna’s Nile adventure is an epic one but as she nears the end of her 4,000 mile journey in search of the river’s newest source in Rwanda, she discovers that hacking through the jungle to her final goal, is not for the faint hearted.
