An Island Parish: Series 5
This series follows a year in the life of the three Roman Catholic priests who look after the two most remote and southerly parishes of the Outer Hebrides. We follow the arrival of the young Father John Paul MacKinnon to his new post of parish priest on the picturesque island of Barra and see how he adapts to island life, and how the many often larger than life islanders take to him.
Meanwhile, on the next door island, Father Roddy, an experienced priest in his mid-forties, keeps a careful eye on his rooky neighbour, along with his colleague 82-year old Father Calum. There is a certain ‘Father Ted’ appeal, but we also delve into the spiritual life of these communities where 95% of the population is practising Catholic and alongside our priests many other colourful characters and stories interweave with the religious elements.
