Howard Goodall’s Story of Music
In this series Howard Goodall overhauls the history of music – classical, folk and popular – telling its thrilling story in language and definitions we can all understand. He will start with a fresh, blank page, ditching long cherished assumptions and antiquated and often confusing terminology. You will need no prior “musical knowledge” to enjoy the series. Instead, Howard will explain the trickier musical concepts by means of musical demonstrations and enjoyable and instructive visual metaphors.
Howard will look at how music developed, and how new musical techniques – and technology – constantly replenished it over the centuries. He will explain how the music of different eras produced particular emotions, and what kinds of feelings, sensibility and ideas shaped the music in turn.
