The Restoration Man: Series 2
George Clarke is the Restoration Man. He is passionate about our architectural heritage, but not interested in restoration for its own sake. He wants to help breathe new life into these structures, and ultimately help their new owners to restore and convert these vulnerable wrecks into totally unique and beautiful dream homes. A heritage house, with all modern day facilities, but with its structural soul intact. This is one of the toughest design challenges imaginable –how to restore and re-invent will be a constant battle and difficult choices will need to be made. Planning can be really tricky, and these labours of love can come at a huge price – both financially and emotionally. George Clarke will be there to help, advise, and support these restoration warriors wherever possible.
To truly understand and respect a building, you must unlock its past. The new owners are now custodians of a heritage building, important both locally and nationally – and with that comes responsibility. Architecture informs future generations about different periods in times gone by. By exploring the history of a building and the people associated with it, its character is enriched and it becomes something more than bricks and mortar. George Clarke undertakes his own in depth archive research, meets with professional historians and locals to understand what the building means to them, and why saving it is so important. George also visits fine examples of outstanding architecture to help our owners realise their own buildings historic significance.
